CBS Curriculum Delivery Underpinned by Best Practice RELATIONSHIP-BASED LEARNING "...how schools and teachers can respond to diverse groups of students and develop teaching practices that promote learning for everyone. In this approach, students’ prior knowledge, language and ways of making sense of the world are used to inform teaching practices rather than being seen as barriers to learning." Read More > ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING "Assessment for learning is best described as a process by which assessment information is used by teachers to adjust their teaching strategies, and by students to adjust their learning strategies." Read More > TEACHER INQUIRY "... an approach to teaching in which teachers continuously inquire into the impact of their teaching actions on student learning, make informed changes to improve their teaching practice in order to enhance student learning, and measure the impact that these changes have on their students’ learning." Read More > POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING "PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. The framework is based on international evidence that can be tailored to your school’s own environment and cultural needs. " Read More > COLLABORATION "Collaboration is the process of working together to achieve a common goal. In teaching, the common goal is always improved learner outcomes." Read More > INCLUSION "Children and young people learn best when they feel accepted, when they enjoy positive relationships with their fellow learners and teachers, and when they are able to be active, visible members of the learning community." Read More > LEARNER AGENCY "Students have a sense of "agency" when they feel in control of things that happen around them; when they feel they can influence events. This is an important sense for learners to develop. They need to be active participants in their learning.' Read More > HIGH EXPECTATIONS Teachers’ expectations of their students’ learning may be more important in influencing student progress than pupils’ abilities. ‘High expectation teachers’ believe that students will learn faster and will improve their level of achievement. Read More > Extra Curricular We aim to provide a range of experiences for our students during their time at CBS. Chess Club Kapa Haka Waterwise Robotics After-school sports A range of lunchtime clubs ICAS Australasian Exams, Tournament of Minds Extra Tutoring The school is aware that some parents have accessed private tutoring or extra classes for their children outside of school hours. To support our community as best we can with these types of decisions the school has the following advice. Outside tutoring or additional academic classes are not expected of students. We acknowledge that this is a family choice first and foremost. If families are looking to enhance their child’s development and experiences outside of school hours, we recommend activities that promote well being and holistic development, and are appropriate for primary aged children. Some examples of this could be for students to take up a musical instrument, join a sports team or have a playdate. If you feel your child’s learning needs are not being met, or that they require additional support beyond the classroom programme please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance. Reading at Home Our Literacy Steering group have created a guide to reading at home, using research about how best to encourage children to read at home and how families can support this. ENGLISH MANDARIN KOREAN Learning Progress at CBS Please read the attached pdf document that was created to inform how we keep our parent/caregivers informed of our students learning progress. - Centenary celebrations | Campbells Bay School
The week of 25-29 August 2025 marked a momentous occasion in our school's history as we celebrated our centenary. The entire week was dedicated to honouring 100 years of education, community, and growth here at Campbells Bay School. This significant milestone was woven into all aspects of our classroom practice, with students enthusiastically engaging in learning about the school's rich heritage, its evolution over the decades, and the countless individuals who have walked its halls. The atmosphere was one of joyful reflection and pride as we celebrated a century of nurturing young minds. Our celebrations brought together past and present members of the school community in a wonderful series of events. We were incredibly honoured to welcome back many past pupils, with some who attended as early as the 1940s, to share their precious memories with us. Highlights of the week included a delightful high tea, nostalgic school tours, a formal centenary assembly, and a spectacular 1920s-themed evening function that captured the spirit of our founding decade. The festivities culminated in a vibrant centenary fair, creating a memorable experience for all. Please enjoy the selection of photos from these special events.

- Travelwise | Campbells Bay School
Travelwise At Campbells Bay School we have a Travelwise programme, with the aim of minimising car traffic around the school and encouraging alternate and safe methods of getting to and from school. Travelwise is a programme for schools that works with the Auckland Council and ARTA to encourage the safe use of efficient transport. New Zealand has the most cars per person of any country in the world, and car trips to school make up about 40% of Auckland’s morning traffic. With Travelwise, Campbells Bay School is trying to do our bit to not contribute to that problem. The Travelwise programme brings a number of benefits for the school our students, and our parents and members of our community – both directly and indirectly. These include: OUR SCHOOL Reduced traffic problems. Higher levels of road safety. A well-maintained and up to date safety programme. Improved relationships with the local community. OUR STUDENTS Improved health and fitness. Improved personal safety skills. Increased knowledge and awareness of the local community. Greater confidence and independence. PARENTS & COMMUNITY Less time spent sitting in traffic. Reduced air and noise pollution. Gives parents more time in the morning with their kids. Improves overall road safety and improves cycling, walking and bus routes. Buses Campbells Bay School runs a school bus, a more efficient way to get kids to school than parents in cars. DOWNLOAD PDF CBS Wise Walkers CBS Wise Walkers is the official name of the Campbells Bay School walking buses. Walking school buses are made up of groups of children who walk designated routes to and from school, supervised by rostered parents. The parent to child ratio is 1:8 and parents ideally share the responsibility each week in return for their child walking. This is a great opportunity for kids to keep fit, relieve traffic congestion at school, and to socialise with other kids from the area, creating a fun, enjoyable walk to school. Children join the bus outside their house or at one of the meeting spots along the route. Each bus operates to suit the needs and schedules of the families on the route, so check with the coordinator of your bus for specific details. Feel free to have a trial walk first. Walking Bus Coordinators - WANTED We are on the look out for new walking school bus coordinators. If you are interested in getting involved please contact our school office at admin@campbellsbay.school.nz EMAIL TO FIND OUT MORE - Benefits of a Walking School Bus -
