Zone Days ZONE & INTERSCHOOLS DATES Term 1 2026 TENNIS The Super Cluster Inter School Tennis Tournament will be held at Campbells Bay Tennis Club. on the 13th of March 2025. Each school is limited to entering one team of 4 boys and 4 girls. The tournament is open to students in years four to six. Students will be able to register their interest in the tournament via a google doc link on the daily news (CBTV). The link is also emailed to classroom teachers. It is the students responsibility to regularly check the daily news and to make sure that they have registered their interest by the due date. The team will be named on CBTV news and the selected students will receive an information letter with the necessary tournament and registration details. CRICKET The inter school cricket tournament usually takes place in March, at the Takapuna Cricket Club. The tournament is open to stude nts in years four to six. and is for both boys and girls. Students will be able to register their interest in the tournament via a google doc link on the daily news. The link is also emailed to classroom teachers. It is the students responsibility to regularly check the daily news and to make sure that they have registered their interest by the due date. Trials for the cricket teams will take place during school hours. The date and time for trials will be on the daily news. It is the students responsibility to regularly check the daily news and to make sure that they know when and where their trial is. The teams will be named on CBTV news and the selected students will receive an information letter with the necessary tournament and registration details. SWIMMING SWIM TEAM TRIALS 2025 The CBS Swim Team Trials will be on Thursday, 13th March. They will be held at the Sir Owen Glen National Aquatic Centre at AUT Millennium. The trials are open to students in years 3-6. In order for students to attend the trials, they must have completed the registration process via Kindo at the beginning of March. As the Primary School Competition will be swum in a 2.2 metre deep pool, all swimmers must be competent and confident in swimming 25 metres without the need to stop or touch the bottom of the pool. If your child needs to stop to hold onto the lane rope, they will be asked to exit the pool and watch the remainder of the trials. One of the criteria for team selection is your child has to swim freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke at the trial. Children must be able to confidently swim 25m of each stroke. Please do not register your child if they are unable to confidently swim 25m of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Times will be taken at the trials for each of the strokes. The swimming competition allows each child to be entered for 25m or 50m distances and for the 100m free (a maximum of 3 individual events per child). SWIM TRIAL REGISTRATION Registrations for swim trials will be advertised via a Hero notification and the daily news that classes read in their classrooms in the morning. The information letter with all the necessary information and details will be emailed to all year 3-6 families via Hero. Please note only students who have registered in time will be allowed to attend the trial. Due to large amount of administration and preparation time needed fo r the swim trial event, NO late registrations will be accepted. Please make sure you have read all the information in the information letter before registering your child on Hero. NORTH SHORE PRIMARY SCHOOL SWIM MEET The CBS Swim team will be competing at the North Shore Primary School Swim Meet. The date for 2025 is the 6th of May 2025. This will take place at the Sir Owen Glen National Aquatic Centre at AUT Millennium. TEAM SELECTIONS Selections are dependent on times achieved at the trials and the number of events and children in each of the age groups (8, 9, 1 0 & 11 year olds). The organisers of the North Shore Primary Schools meet have set a limit of 32 swimmers per school team. If successful in gaining a place in the team, your child needs to be available to compete in term 2 (during school hours) at the National Aquatic Centre, AUT Millennium. If your child is selected to be part of the team to represent CBS at the swim meet, the school will decide which events your child will swim based on their swim trial results and what is best for the school team. When registering for trials and the swim team (if successful), you are agreeing to this. Registrations for the swim team trials will open early 2025 via a Hero notification. Term 2 2025 CROSS COUNTRY The inter-school cross country event will be held at Sunnynook Park on Thursday, 12 June. The event is a Super Cluster event and the CBS Cross Country Team will compete against teams from Sunnynook School, Mairangi Bay, Saint Johns, Murrays Bay, Pinehurst, Pinehill and Browns Bay. Each school is limited to entering one team 8 runners for each gender group in each of the year groups of year four, year five and year six. So, 48 runners in total. TEAM SELECTIONS The CBS Cross Country Team is selected from the year four, five and six competitive/ interschool trial run, at Sunnynook Park. Students in year four, five and six who would like to participate in this run need to register via the school online payment portal (Kindo). A hero notification will come out closer to the time. CROSS COUNTRY 2025 LETTER BASKETBALL Year 5-6 basketball will take place on Thursday, 29 May, at the North Shore Events Center. NETBALL Year six field day 18th June. The Super Cluster will be held on 14th August Term 3 2025 FOOTB ALL This will be held in term three on Tuesday, 9 September, at Ashley Reserve in Long Bay HOCKEY Please check back soon for information on hockey in 2025. Local Information Campbells Bay School is a decile-10 school, in a high socio-economic area, located in a beautiful setting overlooking the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island. Auckland’s North Shore City is a short ferry ride from Downtown Auckland, or can be reached by the short trip over the Harbour Bridge. Beautiful beaches, lush native bush and spectacular views of the Gulf make the North Shore an excellent place for parents to live and for kids to grow up and learn. The area has plenty going on, lively cafes and restaurants, sports clubs and leisure centres and a thriving local arts scene. North Shore City is an hour away from the Auckland International Airport, or a seven minute drive from the Auckland CBD. Auckland has a pleasant climate which means relatively mild, does not get great extremes between seasons – no weeks of baking heat or months of being snowbound. CBS PTA Campbells Bay School Parents and Teachers Association The PTA is a great way to become involved with your chil d's school. OUR OBJECTIVES: Community To enhance a sense of community and build school spirit through hosting social activities and events. Fundraising Raise funds to provide resources, facilities and oppo rtunities for the school to provide our children an enriching environment and education that supports their needs. The PTA is composed of parents & caregivers, and Patricia Meder, our Deputy Principal. We also liaise with other key staff members including the Board of Trustees and school Principal Bevan Verryt, as needed. This gives the PTA an insight into the workings and decision making of the school. Everyone who is a parent or caregiver of a child at Campbells Bay School is invited to attend meetings and become involved in the PTA. Dates can be found on the school calendar or on the PTA Facebook page. Your involvement is welcomed, in either a large or small capacity. English Students are regular participants in literacy rich experiences that support them to access the English strand of the New Zealand Curriculum. Students are taught explicitly and intentionally to read, write, speak and listen. Below are the core components of English at Campbells Bay School. Literacy Rich Learning Environments Our learning spaces are inviting and well resourced. Students have access to a variety of learning tools to enhance and engage their literacy brains. Teachers plan and provide integrated, cross-curricular learning that taps into timely, real-life events both within and beyond our community. Teacher Led Literacy Workshops & Guided Teaching Teachers plan for and implement regular, targeted, deliberate teaching sessions focusing on core literacy knowledge unpacked from the New Zealand Curriculum. Students work independently, in small group and in whole class sessions to practice and cement new learning in place. Teachers monitor this carefully through tracking and assessment practices. Building Blocks to Literacy A foundational literacy programme that underpins level one of the curriculum. Supported by a Learning Leader and intergrated through collaborative teaching. Casey the Caterpillar and our Junior Phonics Programme are core elements of early literacy. Professional Development Opportunities Teachers are regular participants in Professional Development. Mathematics Mathematics at Campbells Bay School encourages students to connect as deep thinkers and explore creative ways to access learning across all strands of the New Zealand Mathematics Curriculum. Our students are mathematicians, problems solvers, architects, statisticians and more on an every day basis. They are challenged by their teacher and their peers to build on core knowledge and use this to solve authentic problems. Below are some of the core components of teaching and learning Mathematics at Campbells Bay School. Problem Solving Approach Our students engage in regular problem solving challenges, applying knowledge from across the core mathematics strands. By integrating the strands our students are able to explore authentic problems and deepen their understanding. Talk Moves Teachers encourage students to share their thinking using a strategy known as 'Talk Moves'. This simple questioning technique engages the learner by challenging them to participate and engage with mathematical content and reasoning. Effective Teaching of Mathematics Need text here Maths Matters We work closely with the expert teacher Lucie Cheeseman from Maths Matters. She helps to engage our teachers with up-to-date, research based teaching and learning strategies. 2026 information Here is all the information you need for your child at CBS in 2026. Monday 2, Tuesday 3 & Thursday 5 February: The school office opens 9.00 am - 3.00 pm. Wednesday 4, February: 8.30-12.00 Thursday 5 February. ‘Whakawhanaungatanga - Building Connections’ Meetings Please note that on this day you will only come in with your child for your prebooked meeting. A Hero notification will be sent out on Friday 12 December, when school interview bookings will open for you to book a time slot. The bookings will close on Monday 2 February 2026. The second hand uniform store will be open in the PA room from 10.30 am-1 pm. Friday 6 February. Waitangi Day. Public Holiday, school closed. ALL STUDENTS: Monday 9 February - school starts at 8:55 am and finishes at 3.00 pm Please take your child directly to their classroom this morning unless they are new to CBS; there is no need to come to the office first. All new students (including New Entrants): Please come to the school office to finalise your child's enrolment. Please bring in a recent utility bill as proof of your current in-zone address, and we will ask you to sign a statutory statement confirming your residence. Our whakanui welcome assembly at 9:15 am in the hall will officially welcome our new students, staff and whānau. We encourage you all to join us in this special welcome. Our Board Campbells Bay School is dedicated to providing exceptional education in New Zealand. Our board, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, ensures the school's performance meets high standards. We emphasise strategic leadership, setting a clear vision, and legal compliance while delegating responsibilities to our capable Principal. As a proactive team, we focus on student achievement and relentlessly seek ways to enhance their success. Our board includes five parent trustees, our principal, Bevan, and our staff representative, Sarah Geelen. Presiding Member Brendon Ng Working as Senior Legal Counsel at a large telecommunications company. Dad to two active boys at CBS in years 4 and 6. My favourite subjects are English and Music. I am a passionate sports Fan (especially the mighty NZ Warriors, Crusaders and NZ Breakers). Parent Trustee Ben Yu Proud to be working as an Enterprise Architect at Lotto New Zealand. Even prouder to be Dad to two amazing kids, Katherine and Serena — with Serena currently in Year 2 at Campbells Bay School. My favourite subject at school was definitely Mathematics. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my family, experimenting with new technology, and participating in community events. A big fan of hotpot dinners and scenic walks around Auckland. She has been a member of the CBS whānau for almost 10 years, working within many of our teams, and is currently a member of team 6. Gabby has two children, one in Year 2 and the other about to start as a New Entrant. Gabby is a strong advocate of the Arts at CBS and will direct this year's production of Madagascar. It ensures the goals laid out in the school’s Charter are achieved. The Board serves a number of practical purposes, including setting strategic goals, determining board policy, delegating powers to the appropriate groups of individuals, and reviewing how well all of those functions are being performed. The Principal manages the school within the parameters set by the policies of the Board. The Board and Principal work in partnership to provide and maintain overviews of school activities, develop and review board policy, provide strategic direction and keep track of progress on all these fronts.
