Welcome

Campbells Bay School is one of Auckland’s top primary schools. Students can improve their English while studying the New Zealand Year 1 – 6 School Curriculum. Our school is proud of its cultural diversity and celebrates students’ success through a wide range of rich learning opportunities. Located in the heart of Campbells Bay community on the scenic North Shore of Auckland City, our school is close to many facilities: shopping malls, parks, local businesses, transport and beautiful beaches. The North Shore is a prime location for families with young children.

Campbells Bay School is an inclusive and supportive environment promoting lifelong learning, academic achievement and student well-being through our school values of atawhai, whakaute and manawanui (kindness, respect and resilience). Our global reputation promotes our commitment to teaching, learning and support for our international community.  You are welcome to join us for a school tour and see for yourself how we support and engage our International Students in a rich learning environment with their friends and peers.

School Orientation – Your Learning Journey Begins

An orientation programme has been specially designed to set our students up for success from the very beginning. We welcome students to the school with an orientation before the school year or term. The programme includes a short presentation that outlines how our school is run on a daily basis and to answer your questions you may have.  This is also an opportunity for our international whānau to connect and meet members of the International Team in a comfortable setting.  The programme is completed with a tour of the school and a look through our learning spaces.

Rich Learning Opportunities – How do we meet the needs of our students

While integrated into all classroom programmes, students also attend our special support classes delivered by our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) staff. All International students are encouraged to participate in all areas of school life, including camp, swimming, plant to taste, sports, cultural groups, leadership opportunities, music and the arts throughout the year.

Pastoral Care

Providing pastoral care is an important service provided by Campbells Bay School to our international students. Our pastoral care team assists with enrolment and helping new students, and their families, settle into New Zealand and the Campbells Bay School community.

The Director of International Students is always available to help our international families. We also have parent-teacher interviews and written school reports throughout the year.

Providing English language support is also an element of pastoral care. Lessons are held for 30-40 minutes, up to four times a week, and are conducted by our outstanding ESOL team. These lessons strengthen the oral and written language taught in the classroom, and additional reading and writing material is provided for students to work on at home.

We are proud that our approach is responsive to students' needs.  Students who are successfully accessing the curriculum are supported more at a distance, with the ESOL specialist providing support to the classroom teacher so that the particular English needs are met in the classroom where the student can learn alongside their peers.

International student trips have been arranged once a year, and give these students a chance to experience different aspects of New Zealand. In the past this has included visiting a working New Zealand farm, and a cruise around the Auckland harbour and a visit from Zoo Ventures. Parents, siblings and agents have been invited on these trips.
