COMING UP
Acting Principal Message
Mā te huruhuru ke rere to manu
Adorn the bird with feathers so it may soar
This is the kaupapa for Te Mātaiaho – The NZ Curriculum refresh, and it stands at the heart of what teachers do every day. Teachers provide our akōnga – students with skills and strategies so that they can live their passions and become the very best version of themselves. We want to give them the tools so that they can soar – fly high and live their dreams.
Next week we welcome our new Principal, Bevan Verryt, to our kura. As a school we are excited for his arrival and we are looking forward to his leadership and guidance, so that our kura can soar to even greater heights.
Year 5
I am pleased to announce that our Year 5 students will be relocating to the upper level of our new building. To ensure as little disruption as possible to learning, the move will take place out of school hours. The first day for students and teachers in their new learning space will be Thursday 1 June.
Year 6
As our Year 5 vacate the existing ILE (Innovative Learning Environment), the two Year 6 classes who are located in our village green area will move in. Their will be a little reshuffle of classes, with three classes on each level. Rooms 6B, 6S and 6G will be on the upper level, with 6O, 6Y and 6P on the lower level.
Refurbishment of Rooms 4 to 14
These classrooms will undergo a complete makeover during term 3. We are bound by the availability of the contractors as to when this could happen. The classes involved will relocate during the next school holidays. More information regarding this move will be shared directly to the whānau of these students nearer the time.
Time-lapse Camera
With the completion of our build, the Ministry of Education has shared the finished time-lapse video of the entire build. The video can be viewed/downloaded at the link HERE.
Teacher Only Day – date for your diary
The second teacher only day provided by the Ministry of Education to schools to upskill and guide teachers with Te Mātaiaho – NZ Curriculum Refresh is scheduled for Monday 13 November. Our school will be closed to students for instruction for this day.

Senior Librarians Childcare Visit
Tuesday afternoon, some of our senior librarians had the opportunity, as part of our ‘Not self, but Service’ school motto, to share books and their love of reading with children from Campbells Bay Early Childcare Centre. Our CBS Students demonstrated all our school values and the young children had a lovely time listening to stories and showing them around their centre. We look forward to our next visit in a few weeks time.
Pōwhiri welcome for our new Tumuaki Bevan Verryt.
Student Success
A huge congratulations to Isadora Atkinson in 5P competed in the Auckland Regional Taekwon-Do tournament this Sunday. She took part in the green belt patterns and won the bronze medal!!’
WELCOME – New Students
Evelyn, Olivia and Felix to our school!
LOST PROPERTY
Please ensure that your children’s items are clearly labelled with their first and last name. Our lost property bins are located in Room 22 (adjacent to the Hall). Please come and have a look if your child is missing any item. These bins will be cleared out at the end of the term.
COMMUNITY FOREST
Our community forest is closed to the public for the foreseeable future, as it is undergoing repairs. Thank you.
Keeping Ourselves Safe
Next week we will be teaching the personal safety programme Keeping Ourselves Safe. Keeping Ourselves Safe has been designed to give students the skills to cope in situations involving abuse. Please click here to find out more about this programme.
It has three overall aims:
-
to develop and strengthen children’s skills to keep themselves safe with other people;
-
to support and encourage abused children to get help from caring adults;
-
to make teachers and parents/caregivers more aware of the need to keep children safe from abuse by adults or other children.
Keeping Ourselves Safe will be taught by your child’s teacher. To be successful, Keeping Ourselves Safe needs your help and support. Your child may have homework activities to work on with you.
It is important that you participate as much as possible and talk to your child about what they have been learning. This will help reinforce the messages the school is giving, and help your child to use his or her new skills with confidence.

This trial/ competitive run is optional and like the swim team and athletics team trials, students who would like to be considered for the inter school cross country team will need to register to take part in this event. This event is also for students who would like to challenge themselves on the inter school cross country course, give a more competitive race a go or improve on their effort and result from last year. CBS Orange Flippa ball team meets NZ U20 water polo team!
CBS Orange Flippa Ball team had a special moment at their training at AUT Millennium on Saturday. They were very lucky to have an opportunity for a photo with the New Zealand U20 Water Polo Team. The team is leaving NZ next week to represent NZ at the World Champs in Romania from 10-17 June. Our team also got to watch them in action to get some tips!
CBS Swim Team put in a top effort!
On Tuesday 2 May, our CBS Swim team competed in the North Shore Primary
Schools Swim Competition. This was held at the National Aquatic Centre at AUT
Millennium.
Twenty-four local primary schools competed at this swim meet. CBS took a team of
thirty-two swimmers from across year three to year six. We were fortunate to have so
many dedicated and keen swimmers and with some very last-minute changes, our
reserve swimmers stepped up and added huge value to our team.
All our swimmers were focused and displayed determination and teamwork on the
day. Everyone gave their absolute best, both in and out of the pool. The CBS swim
team went into the meet as the defending champions from the last six years. Every
swimmer contributed towards our accumulated points, helping us towards our
school’s final total. It was a tight and closely fought contest with Kristin School. They
ended up taking out the title of top school by only nineteen points! We are so proud
of all the members of our swim team for this outstanding achievement.
All our swimmers are to be congratulated on how well they worked together as a
team. Their support for each other and the team was very noticeable. Thank you to
all the supporters who came along on the day to support us and thank you to Sarah
Geelen, Rob Padgett and Jaslyn Chow for doing a superb job as team managers. A
big thank you too, to all the parent helpers who gave up their time to take on a duty
role as a timekeeper, contributing to the successful running of the event.
The overall points for the top three schools were as follows:
1. Kristin School 1,147 points
2. Campbells Bay School 1,128 points
3. Pinehurst 928.5 points
