COMING UP
Principal Message
It is with great excitement that I can tell you that our new build received its Certificate for Public Use (CPU) last Friday. If you have visited the school today, you will have noticed that most of the fencing surrounding the building has been removed. Despite the wild weather today, our new building looks beautiful.
Obtaining the CPU means that we can begin to move into the learning spaces. The move will be staggered, with furniture and resources being moved in first, and our students from next week.
Before our tamariki can use the space for learning, we have invited our iwi, Te Kawerau a Maki to bless our build. As soon as we have confirmation of the date, we will let you know.
The gate access to the field from Aberdeen Road, will be closed this week. The back of the field will be fenced off as New Entrant Central, the area on the field with the porta coms, will begin to be dismantled. The decking and other internal items will be removed over the next couple of days; with the classrooms being removed overnight starting from next week.
School Uniform
A friendly reminder that all students are required to wear full and correct uniform (including shoes) to school, every day.
Please click on this link: CBS Uniforms to view the correct uniform. If for any reason your child is unable to wear the correct uniform, please email the class teacher.

ANZAC CELEBRATIONS
It was a joy to be able to hold our ANZAC commemoration ceremony last Friday morning. An enormous thank you to Commander Mike Peebles, a CBS parent, for working with us to ensure this was the best experience for our tamariki and their whanau. Please enjoy these photos.
CARPARKING IN ABERDEEN
It has been brought to our attention that parents are parking illegally on Aberdeen Road during school drop off and pick up, this is a safety issue. Please DO NOT park over driveways or on berms of private property, otherwise you maybe towed away. Thank you.
Reading to our Junior School
We were so fortunate to have AET James Florence from the Royal NZ Navy reading ANZAC picture books you our Year 0-2 students on Friday morning. The children loved the stories and meeting someone from the Navy!

TRAVELWISE UPDATE
At the end of term one the Travelwise team held their first event of 2023 with Bike Week.
The team of year 6 students produced a series of safety videos and promoted bike riding as a way to get to school that can reduce traffic congestion around the school. The also monitored how the week of promotion impacted the number of students choosing to ride their bikes to school. The week ended with free juicies for all bike riders!
Before bike week an average of 25 students rode their bikes to school. During bike week we saw this number steadily increase and on the final day the bike racks were overflowing with 89 bikes!
The Travelwise team will continue to monitor the numbers of students biking to school and hopefully we can see our baseline increase over time.
