COMING UP

On Board

Well we made it to the end of term, despite cyclones, strikes, and new build trials and tribulations. We held our first community event in a while (big thanks to the PTA) and you only had to take one look at the food van queues to see there is clearly an appetite for more of these! Watch this space.
This week we say our final goodbyes to our much loved Principal Rachael Taylor. After almost a decade with the school, she will be sorely missed and we wish her the very best with her new chapter in life. We’ll be forever grateful for everything she has brought to the school, what great shape she leaves us in and how much of herself she has thrown into making our school amazing.
Despite a few ups and downs and scheduling fluctuations, we are on the home straight now with our new build and you will all be able to see it’s an impressive addition to the school’s property. According to latest forecasts we can expect to be in and using the space by the beginning of next term. We hope you will all join us at the dawn blessing for the opening (details in the main newsletter).
And finally, all the best for the upcoming holidays, we hope you all get some rest, relaxation and enjoy time with your whānau.
From the CBS School Board

Principal Message – Farewell from Mrs Taylor

How it started…in the 90’s

How it went…2013-2019, newsletter snippet from 2013

And how it ended! 2019-2023

Kia ora e te whānau,

It is hard to believe that after almost ten years at Campbells Bay School, it is now time to say haera ra. What a ride and what a privilege it has been to work here, to learn, lead and to be part of what is a truly incredible place.

For a decade I have been surrounded by inspiration. Starting with our students, the way that they see the world, their passions and interests that they discover along the way and their enthusiasm for learning. There is never a dull moment and always plenty of laughter and joy! Our staff, their undeniable care, commitment and collegiality. They are the type of people who have integrity, go above and beyond, put their hand up to get in amongst anything that will be for the betterment of the students in this school. They are the type of people who make you want to keep improving and do your best. And of course, our volunteers, parents, whānau and extended school community. Your dedication to your child’s learning and development is a true gift to the school. Our shared history, connected stories and experiences of this school makes it rich in history and heart. And so special to be a part of.

I could list pages of changes, actions and innovation that I have witnessed, led and participated in. The school has changed considerably in the time I have been here and I am proud of where it stands today in property, people and pedagogy. I am excited about where to, next. The journey your new Principal will be able to embark on with the school. CBS could not be in a better position for him to lead you into the next chapter. I have learned a lot as a leader, completed post-graduate studies, learned from colleagues and experts in their fields and I have learned from you all.

Whilst I have been lucky enough to watch your children grow, I feel like I have grown so much as well. In my time at CBS I have got married, become a step-mum, mother of a little girl and now soon to be mother of a little boy, this coming August!

Thank you for your support, understanding and for the partnership we have created over the years.

So from me to you, ka kite! Thank you, and all the best!

Ngā mihi nui,

Rachael Taylor

Opening of our New Classroom Block – RSVP to attend the blessing

We are excited that we are preparing for the opening of our kura’s new 14 classroom block.

CPU has been delayed until Friday 14 April. This is due to a Watercare hold up. The build team is confident that CPU will be issued on this day. This means we have scheduled a blessing on Monday 24 April at 7am. Note this is the morning of our Teacher Only Day.

Te Kawerau a Maki, mana whenua of CBS are leading the tikanga for this event. The blessing will start at 7am sharp and kai will follow. For catering purposes please RSVP to the google form below.

Should the CPU be delayed, you will be notified of a change to this event via email and on the wesbite.

If you would like to attend the blessing ceremony, please RSVP using the google form link here.  We have fixed the link… 🙂

Reporting to Parents

One of our goals as a school is to continue to build strong partnerships with parents to support the holistic development of our students at CBS.  With this in mind, we are changing the way we report to parents and over the year we will be regularly communicating what this will look like.

We are delighted to invite you to book a time to meet with your child’s teacher for a 12 minute Learning Conversation’.  We have made this change from ‘next step’ interviews as we believe that meeting with you and discussing what’s important to you and your child is critical for their success.

Learning Conversations

Term 2: Week 2

Tuesday 2nd May and Thursday 4th May

Click here to go to the website.  The code you need is: 5ct8t

This quality time will be led by what is really important for you to talk about.  To ensure we are able to prepare effectively for this meeting, your child’s class teacher will be sending out a google form. The purpose of the form is to find out what you would like to discuss and for you to share any information you would like before the meeting.

Further examples of what might be discussed during the conversation could be:

  • How your child has settled into school this year after a disrupted start
  • A celebration of highlights across the curriculum
  • How they are managing themselves eg, independence, friendships, looking after their belongings
  • Participation and contribution in class and around the school
  • Examples of how they are showing our school values
  • Areas of focus and how you can help at home

If you have any questions, please get in touch with one of our Deputy Principals who are both more than happy to answer your questions.

Librarians Trip to Campbells Bay Early Learning Centre

We went on Tuesday afternoon to share the love of reading with our community and to share their Book Month. We shared books and then played and made new friends. We enjoyed this service in our community and cannot wait to go again next term.

Easter Egg Request

With Easter this week, I am kindly asking for your support to help gift a child at De Paul House, an Easter egg or bunny. They currently have 100 children residing with us and wish to provide a special Easter to our whānau this year!
Times are increasingly tough, especially when purchasing food. Any small items would be greatly appreciated- whether it be small chocolate eggs for an Easter egg hunt or some little lollies. By making a donation, you are creating a special memory for families, putting a big smile on a child’s face and relieving the potential financial stress of a parent.
I can collect from you, please email me on: [email protected] or you can drop into the school office.
Ngā mihi nui,
Cassie

Lost Property

Our lost property bins in Room 22 (adjacent to the Hall) are almost full (with lots of swimming gear too). Please come and have a look if your child is missing any item. These bins will be cleared out at the end of the term.

EZ LUNCH – School Lunches

Just a friendly reminder, if you are ordering your child a school lunch, that you please make sure you are ordering for the correct day. We have had many cases of children recently thinking that they have a lunch order but don’t actually have one, leaving the child hungry and for the parents to come and bring in some lunch. If there is an issue with school lunches please phone: Ez Lunch on 869-5200. Many thanks.

Second Hand Uniform Sales will Pause in Term 2

‘Hello!! There is only two more opportunities to buy second hand uniform until August this year!! The shop is open on Monday the 27th of March and Monday the 3rd of April.

Due to the temporary closing of the second hand uniform next term, there is very little storage space available. Some clothes are unable to be sold. If this applies to some of your clothing, you will be contacted. This will be available for collection from the school office, between now and the end of term, after this they will be disposed of. Please do not bring your uniform in to sell until the Uniform shop re-opens. Thank you for your help and understanding with this!!’
