Principal Message

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back to the 2023 school year. A special welcome to our new families who have joined CBS. This is just a quick newsletter today with information that may be useful before we start back to school next week.

We hope you are having a wonderful holiday break. We are very excited to see students back at Campbells Bay School soon. We have one week to go! This week staff are very busy completing professional development including Mātauranga Māori with Marian Pearce and updating their first aid certificates. They will also be meeting in their teams to plan and prepare for the term. We are all eagerly awaiting students to return to school!

Before we get into the school year, we invite students and whānau into school on Thursday 26 January for our ‘getting to know you’ meetings. The link to book can be found below. A great opportunity to connect and exchange pertinent information that will set both the teacher and child up for a successful start. We look forward to seeing you on this day at the time you have booked online.

Our first official school day is Tuesday 31 January. As always, school is open from 8.30am and class begins at 8.55am, the school day finishes at 3.00pm. Bus services will be operating.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Ngā mihi nui,
Rachael Taylor

NB: A reminder of teacher and class locations for 2023 and a map of the school can be found below.

Access to the School Grounds – IMPORTANT

Over the holidays the new classroom block has been making excellent progress. There has been plenty of excavation of the old staff carpark by the office and preparation for new concrete around the old bike shed and entrance to the school. The main gate entrance to the school will be blocked off for the first week of school due to a slight delay over the break. This means that the pathway from the main iron gates to the front office will be closed off for concrete pouring.
How do I access the Office?
Alternative routes to the office can be found internally through the learning hub or down the room four to six corridor. If you get lost, just ask for assistance from any of our staff.
How do I get to class?
If you are entering the school from Aberdeen Road, all classes can be accessed around past the school hall and keep walking to the left.
What gates or entrances can I use?
– the gates at the bus bay
– the gate by the year one and two playground at the front of the school
– via the Peter Tce walkway
– the gate at the bottom of the school field
Thanks in advance for your patience as we manage some of the final disruptions before the opening of our new 14 classroom block and playground in term two.

Second Hand Uniform Sales

There will be a sale on Thursday the 26th of January 2023 from 11.30am until 1.30pm, this is alongside the “Getting to Know You” meetings with your 2023 teachers.

Teacher News

A big congratulations to Miss Victoria Huck, who got married over the school holidays and is now Mrs Victoria Harrison.

Plenty of maintenance occurred over the school break. A great time for us to refurbish many of our permanent prefabs. Rooms 15 to 21 all received new carpet, Autex, a paint, new fittings, and lino.  Unfortunately, like many property projects, unexpected delays occurred. A few of the classrooms required new Gib. This means that some of the rooms will not have time to set up and be cleaned ready for the ‘getting to know you’ meetings this Thursday. Your child’s teacher will email you directly if there is a change in location for your meeting.

However, I have been assured that they will all be accessible for day one of school!

A timely roofing project has been underway above Rooms 1 – 3 and Rooms 24 – 26, with the amount of rain we have had in 2022, these classes needed some roof repair.

Finally, overall general maintenance occurred. Such as, the washing of all our shade sails, window cleaning, community forest weeding, deep carpet cleaning, gutter and building cleaning in some parts of the school.
