Coming Up

Principal Message

Kia ora e te whānau,

It was disco fever at Campbells Bay School last Thursday. Thank you to those who supported the event and also popped along to the Book Fair Sale. It was a great success. I loved catching up with many of you there! It was nice to also hear that parents used it as a good excuse to catch up with each other. The students had a blast.

COVID-19 Update

We have seen steady numbers across the school. On average, ten cases a week. Some classes have been emailed directly. These classes were deemed to be higher risk. Defined by two key factors – if the teacher working in that class has tested positive or if there is more than one case in the same period of time.

Thank you for continuing to keep us informed if your child has tested positive. Students must stay home for seven days (even if they are feeling well again). If they are a household contact, they need to have a negative test each day before they attend school.

After analysis, case numbers are spread across the school, often in isolation of each other. This could well be due to our community keeping their children off school when they are unwell. Thank you. Teachers have been reminded about reinforcing good handwashing and hygiene practices, as well as continuing to keep spaces well ventilated. While mask wearing is not required of our staff or students, it is very much supported at school.

Over the next couple of weeks we will have team assemblies. Principal Awards will be handed out to students showing excellence in their schooling. You will receive an email from your child’s teacher if they have received an award.

A heads up, that in next week’s newsletter we will have a lot of information about the organisation of 2023, this will support the class placement letter that will come home with students Monday 5 December.

Ngā mihi nui,
Rachael Taylor

Donate a book during Book Week
We have a Donate Table in the Book Fair for books we (students) would love to have in our library. You can buy a book from this table or buy two copies of a book of your choice for one book to be donated to CBS library. This book(s) will have an insert inside the book saying ‘This book was donated by ……’ This can be done at the Fair. Thank you to those students and families who have donated over 15 books so far! Happy Reading
Helpers and support – to make all this happen we need your help. Can you spare an hour or two to help with book sales, help with wish lists and keep the fair running smoothly? Then please sign up for a time (or times) that work for you. Click here to sign up or use the QR code below or contact Jo Apperley (joa@campbellsbay.school.nz).

School Books are still being gathered back for the summer this week. Please check under beds, in cars, in bags etc. for any CBS books. They can drop them into the Library anytime. Thank you for your support.

Reading at Home

Campbells Bay School is part of the Mid-Bays Kahui Ako. This is a formal partnership between schools to enhance student outcomes for our entire community. Our Kahui Ako comprises of Rangitoto College, Murrays Bay Intermediate, Murrays Bay Primary, Mairangi Bay School, Browns Bay School and Pinehill School. We decide on key goals across our schools and develop action plans to achieve these goals. One area of focus has been literacy. A group of literacy teachers from our Kahui Ako have developed this resource for whānau to use when trying to support children with reading at home.

Please find the whānau guide to reading at home attached.

This has been put together by the Literacy Steering group using research about how best to encourage children to read at home and how families can support this. We have written it so it can go across our phases. Thanks very much, everyone, for your work on this.

We have also had it translated into Korean and Mandarin. Huge thanks to Emily Chang, Andrew Bian and Regina Noh at Rangitoto College for translating it.

The Korean version of the booklet and the Mandarin version of the booklet are also attached.
