Hat Term

We are a sun smart school! Term one and four are hat terms. The school hat is compulsory for students to wear every day when outside at school. This includes break times and outdoor learning. Please make sure your child has the school hat to wear, ensure it is named!

On Board

The new school board met for the first time just before the October holidays. It was great to welcome new faces and see we have a wide range of complementary skill-sets in the mix. As well as five parent representatives, our Board includes our staff representative, Sarah Geelen, and Principal Rachael Taylor.
Alongside getting to know each other and various induction activities we elected our presiding member – thank you Kim Daji. We discussed governance versus management and our roles as either parent or staff trustees. We talked about how these roles differ from our other important roles, as parents or teachers in our school community.

What is governance and management?

The board’s role is to ensure that things are done legally, ethically, and in the best interests of our students. We need to thoughtfully set the strategic direction and policies for the school and have many legislative requirements and a wide range of stakeholders to consider.

Governance (Board) Management (Principal and school leadership)
The What: Designing the future

The Ends: Outcomes to be achieved

Policies: Clarity on what is expected

The How: Designing how to get there

The Means: Tactics to achieve the end goals

Procedures: Steps to meet the expectations

Calling back Year 4s  Dogs

Please can those wonderful Dogs (Pets as I know there were some cats in there too), come back and take part in our Book Week Book Fair. If your child is happy to loan Mrs Apperley their creation, they will be on display amongst books for our ‘Paws To Read’ book Fair. Please can they come back to school and come to the Learning Hub over the next few weeks. It would be great if it could have your child’s name on it somewhere – perhaps on it’s paw or maybe you can create a collar for it. They will be returned to your child Friday 2nd December. Thank you in advance for your support.

Gumboot Friday

Gumboot Friday – I Am Hope (https://www.iamhope.org.nz/)

This year we are joining the ‘Gumboot Army’ to raise awareness and support this wonderful organisation.  We will be wearing our gumboots to school on Friday 4 November for a gold coin donation. From their website, Gumboot Friday is helping with the following: “Government agencies are doing their best, but some kids are stuck waiting up to six months to receive the counselling they urgently need. We connect kids with mental health counsellors and practitioners in their region or online, so they can get timely support, without the added stress of how to pay the bill.”

For a little bit of fun…
We’d like to invite you to partake in a ‘Gumboot Throwing Competition’ with your child(ren) between 8:30-9:00am on any of the following days – Wed 2, Thurs 3, Fri 4 November.
Volunteers to run the Gumboot Throwing competition
Everything is ready for the competition, we are just hoping that there may be 4 parents each morning who would be able to run the half hour and tidy away the items at 9am. (Easy jobs like – someone to mark the farthest throw with the ‘golden gumboot’, someone to guide the children on how to throw a gumboot, and 2x people to support with lining up and excited children waiting for their turn.  4x parents Wed, 4x parents Thursday and 4x parents Friday from 8:30am – 9:00am would be amazing).
***If you are able to help out, that’d be awesome!  Please email [email protected]

Driver Safety

The duty team are really impressed about patient driver behaviour in the busbay in the mornings and afternoons. Thank YOU! We would like to remind any residents of Aberdeen Road to be careful driving in and out of driveways at these busy times. Big cars and small children around driveways are a dangerous combination. Please take your time and look twice.
