Welcome
To the following students who have started at Campbells Bay School
Luke Room 37, Britney Room 37
Message from the Principal
Kia ora whānau,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. I have been lucky enough to be in classes most afternoons just before my bus bay duty and am genuinely impressed with our students. They are engaged in their learning, enthusiastic about sharing their learning and the school values have been demonstrated in spades! In the middle and senior classes it has been wonderful to see the debate on current events, and the confidence in sharing their thinking on what is going well or could be better for them at school. Reading to the juniors is always fun as they are a captivated audience, who devour picture books and are a great audience. If you are looking for a book recommendation I have found “Incredible You” by Rhys Brisenden to be a hit.
Our COVID-19 update is that since my last newsletter we have had 14 positive student cases and 43 students in total isolating as household contacts. With only three staff members impacted as contacts or positive cases, it has meant that our staffing challenges have settled and school can return to operating and running as smoothly as possible.
Changes to vaccination mandates in education come into effect overnight. This means you will no longer be required to show your vaccine pass or be on our vaccination register if you choose to volunteer or be a parent help at school. Thank you so much to all our whānau who supported us and joined the school register. It is reassuring that we have such high vaccination rates in our community, and a fully vaccinated staff.
While this mandate has been lifted in schools there may still be certain high risk activities or venues that will require vaccine passes from volunteers and staff. More information will be shared with us once those organisations or special events have completed their own internal review and risk assessment.
We await further announcements from the government today. As always should anything impact or change how the school is operating under the red COVID-19 protection framework setting, we will keep you updated.
I also wanted to keep you informed on our current status for recruiting another Deputy Principal. As you know, Nathan Janes has been appointed as the new Principal of Mairangi Bay School from the start of next term. His vacancy has been advertised and our appointment process is underway with the support of the Education Group. The new Deputy Principal will be appointed mid-term two with a start date for the beginning of term three. Until then, Patricia Meder will take over team leadership of Year 5 and 6 while retaining her usual responsibilities and portfolios.
Finally, a reminder that you can turn into the bus bay from both directions in the morning and afternoon. The flow of traffic seems to be working well and I have also noticed a reduction in illegal u-turns. Which has been timely, as we have had Auckland Transport out at the front of the school to monitor driver behaviour.
Hope you have a lovely week ahead.
Ngā mihi nui

Project Give
Tēnā koutou katoa CBS whānau,
As part of our inquiry this term we have been unpacking and exploring Tiriti O Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi). We have been thinking of ways we can uphold the 3 principles of the treaty so have created PROJECT GIVE. We looked at how we could put together our old, unused items and pass them onto other children/schools that are less fortunate or have been impacted by events.
So now we need your help. We created a list of items that we think would be the most rewarding for other children/ schools to use that we have at our own homes.
- picture / chapter books or nonfiction books (basically any old books)
- Soft toys/ dolls
- Colouring/ craft equipment
- Games or puzzles
- Old sports equipment- balls, rackets etc
If you have any of these items that you/ your whānau (and child) are happy to part with and donate towards our project then could you please drop them off to the donation boxes outside of Room 9 from Monday 4th April- Friday 8th April
If you have any questions/ queries please contact Miss Mac – [email protected]
We are so grateful for your tautoko (support) towards our project and we can’t wait to begin!!
Aroha nui,

Book Donations
Thank you to the families who have donated books to CBS library.
These books, although preloved, are in excellent condition and will be now loved by many more students for years to come. We even have a book written in Arabic for the students to enjoy.
If you have books you wish to donate to the Library, please ensure they are in very good condition (No tears, nor rips, nor pages missing and covers are not bent nor creased).
Kiwiana
We are creating a New Zealand corner in the Learning Hub (Library).
Do you have any Kiwiana you no longer need/use?
Perhaps you have a Buzzy Bee lying around, or a Kiwi stuffed toy no longer getting attention or a Paua shell that is clean and stunning or a small clean pair of plain black Gumboots or jandals?
Would be great to add to our New Zealand Corner.

Summer Cricket Success – The Kookaburra Cup Returns to CBS
It is so exciting to hear that Campbells Bay School are the winners of the Takapuna Cricket Kookabura Cup Series this summer. The Kookaburra Cup is a Friday night cricket series for primary school aged children and is played at Takapuna Cricket Club over the summer. This is a great opportunity for kids to participate in a tournament and to learn the skills of cricket and have fun doing so. It is also a great opportunity for families to have a fun social experience. Congratulations to all our students who were involved in this series this summer!
A special congratulations and shout out to George McCarthy who was the winner of the prestigious Grade Cup Winner for the club. This was based on him having the highest strike rate, being the 2nd highest wicket taker and being the lead run-scorer for most of the season. Fantastic work, George!
