Kia ora katoa,
This is just a quick update to keep you informed. The latest announcement from our Prime Minister has stated that Auckland remains at Alert Level 4 for at least another two weeks. This means all school closure procedures remain in place.
I am intentionally trying to keep emails from the school to a minimum. If your inbox looks anything like mine during this time when most communication goes digital, it is critical to not overload it! Rest assured we are working hard behind the scenes preparing for all eventualities, however the latest announcement does provide us with more certainty to plan with. Going forward our focus continues to be on refining our distance learning programme so it is effective and sustainable.
Teacher Only Day September 3rd – Postponed until 2022
As you may remember, we have a Teacher Only Day scheduled for this Friday 3 September. After much deliberation we have made the decision to reschedule this day to a date to be confirmed in 2022. The current lockdown means that we are unable to provide the planned professional learning we had organised for our staff. We are also keen to keep your children in a routine as much as possible. This means that our distance learning program continues as normal all week.
Next Step Reporting
Our reporting week was interrupted abruptly by the lockdown and this has left half of our community still awaiting their child’s mid-year report and next step goal sheets. The leadership team has been deliberating for some time about how we can still get these reports to you.
The reports largely remain in classrooms, left late on Tuesday evening. When we are in Alert Level 3 we are able to access classrooms and teachers will be able to collect the reports. Once collected we will email them through to you.
There is no plan to catch up the missed Thursday evening Next Step Parent Meetings online via zoom or any other online means while at Level 3 or 4. We have made this decision for many reasons, the key one is teacher well being. We will look at ways we can provide an opportunity for those parents who missed out on a meeting, to come in and meet with your child’s teacher when we return to school and it is safe to do so.
I want to take the opportunity to acknowledge the incredible effort of the staff, who have shown true resilience and creativity to make distance learning as effective as possible in challenging circumstances. They really enjoy seeing their students and connecting each day via zoom. A special shout out to our Office Manager, Cushla Dyson who organised and helped me to deliver devices and medication last week.
We have been thinking of all our students and their amazing resilience during this time. We miss them so much! The teachers have put together a fun drumming video for them, inspired by Mrs Knight’s music programme. You can view it here: Teachers Pompeii drumming .MOV
I also want to thank YOU for your support and for helping your children to do their best with distance learning, in whatever form that looks like. There is a reason being a parent, teacher and working are all individual jobs in their own right. You are doing amazing!
As always, when and if things change, you will hear from us.
Take care and best wishes from the CBS team.
