2010 CBS Kapa Haka Visits Playcentre: 14th June
Last Monday the CBS Kapa Haka group performed at the Mairangi Bay Playcentre as part of their Matariki celebrations. Because of limited space at the venue we were only able to take our Year 5/6 students this time.
Our performance was very well received by the Playcentre. However there were a few tears from some youngsters when our boys did their ferocious haka! Afterwards we broke into small groups with our students teaching some of the songs and actions to the younger children. The braver ones were then able to join us in a repeat performance to finish.
The morning concluded with the playcentre students farewelling us with their version of ‘The Taniwha’ song. It was a most enjoyable visit with both parents and teachers very impressed with the way our CBS students conducted themselves. A big ‘thank you’ to those parents who provided transport and took photos and video footage. We look forward to more cultural performances as the year progresses. (Sarah Reid and Jenny Watt)
