2011 CBS Rugby World Cup countries expo: 5th October

On Wednesday 5 October the senior school, Years 4 to 6 displayed their inquiry learning work at a Cultural Expo in the hall. A term’s social sciences work went into the fantastic display that was held all morning, showcasing the students’ learning about culture, using an adopted Rugby World Cup nation, and their own. Countries from Georgia to Tonga were represented, and the expo included costumes, food, artwork, videos, dance and an array of methods that students were able to share their learning to buddy classes and parents.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 CEO Martin Snedden (left) had been invited to the Expo, and he came for a good four hours, ensuring he went around every Expo area, and listened to as many students as possible. Melissa Stokes and the One News Team followed the Expo also, and this led to a segment on the Wednesday night 6.00pm news edition. The media frenzy around the expo continued with reporters from both NZ Herald and North Shore Times also covering the occasion.

The NZ Herald piece appeared on Friday 7 October, and can be found here. All of the students and teachers must be congratulated on a fantastic day. High praise was left by Martin Snedden on the quality of work, and the student engagement and enthusiasm. It was an excellent example of inquiry learning at Campbells Bay School.
