2009 Year 5 Rotorua Trip: 21st-22nd MayYear 5 students, with their entourage of parents and teachers (and plenty of luggage!) left school on Thursday morning 21 May) for an overnight visit to Rotorua. They returned late on Friday afternoon. All 117 members of the group were immersed in a celebration of Maori culture, and idyllic New Zealand, not to mention the freezing winter chill! During their time in Rotorua Year 5 visited the Buried Village, (that tells chronologically the story of the lives lost as result of the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera), Te Puia (New Zealand’s largest natural geyser within the Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley and New Zealand’s Best Cultural Attraction) and the Tamaki Maori Village (where the group participated in a traditional welcome before having a tour of the village, a hangi dinner and a cultural performance).
The students of Team 5 were a credit to Campbells Bay in terms of their enthusiasm, spirit and behaviour. Organising and supervising this visit was a massive undertaking. Thanks go to the teachers and parents for literally ‘going out of their way’ to make this wonderful opportunity available to our Year 5 students.
