2009 community forest weeding: March

Officially opening in August 2000 to celebrate the school’s 75th anniversary, the community forest represents a commitment to re-establish a native forest in the school grounds. With an extensive network of board walks and with hundreds of native trees and shrubs planted during the past decade the Community Forest offers a wonderful environment for our community. An on-going maintenance task is the reduction of invasive weeds. While this is not the most exciting of all tasks, it is a most necessary one.

In recent times our retired associate principal, Jenny Hunter, has assumed the mantle of leadership of the weeding programme. Jenny leads regular forays into the forest with groups of enthusiastic volunteers (children, parents and supporters of the school) to tackle the weed problem. As the forest canopy grows we expect the weed problem will reduce but, given the invasive nature of the weeds and the size of the forest, there will always be a need for Jenny Hunter and her weeding teams!
