2009 year 5 Okura-Stillwater walk: 27th March

On Friday 27th March, Team 5 embarked on the Okura Walk, superbly organised and led by Mr Bruce Reid. Students at Campbells Bay School have enjoyed this walk for the last 13 years and this year wasn’t any different! All of the students found the walk to be interesting, scenic, challenging and thoroughly enjoyable.

The walk was integrated into Team 5’s inquiry learning topic which involves self management and citizenship skills, therefore responsibility, reciprocity, resilience and resourcefulness were all key qualities that were part of the teaching elements to the Okura Walk.

The Okura-Stillwater walk began at the end of Haigh’s Access Road, off East Coast Road. The walk led through spectacular native bush to coastal Okura and the sheltered anchorage of Stillwater. Team 5 stopped for drinks among the nikau and kauri, and they had morning tea and lunch on the beach. Over 30 parents and six teachers joined the 100 students from Team 5. The students were a credit to Campbells Bay School!
