2008 Investors In People Award: 19th May

On 19 May 2008 Campbells Bay School was presented with the Investors in People (IIP) Award.  The Investors in People Standard is an organisational improvement tool designed to advance an organisation's performance through its employees. Started in the UK (and now with over 30,000 clients) IIP came to New Zealand in 1999.

The Investors in People Standard sets a level of good practice for improving an organisation’s productivity by maximising the potential of its people.  Indicators used by IIP include: strategies for managing people promote equality of opportunity in the development of the organisation’s people; managers are effective in leading, managing and developing people; people’s contribution to the organisation is recognised and valued; people are encouraged to take ownership and responsibility by being involved in decision making; continuous improvement is evident; and the organisation understands that investment in people improves the performances of the organisation.

We have been working towards this award since 2006 when we had our initial assessment by IIP. Since then we have been striving to further improve our leadership and management of people. As a result of our assessment following training Campbells Bay School has become the first state Year 0 – 6 school in New Zealand to achieve this award. To keep the award the school will have on-going assessments by IIP. Naturally, we are very pleased to be the recipient of such an award. However, we won’t let this go to our heads! We will keep on improving in the spirit of kaizen (改善), the Japanese process of working for continual improvement.
