2007 teacher Jacky Vanweerd farewell: 4th May

Jacky Vanweerd was farewelled from Campbells Bay School on Friday 4 May 2007. Jacky started teaching at Campbells Bay School in 1990 and resigned at the end of 2006 to travel and pursue her many and varied interests. Jacky's husband, John and daughters Kate and Rebecca joined those farewelling Jacky.

The farewell provided an opportunity to highlight the many contributions Jacky made to the school including sport in general and gymnastics, swimming, athletics, skiing and cross country in particular. As leader of Year 6, Jacky led the annual camp with conspicuous success; with the camp being the highlight of the final year at CBS for our students, along with the graduation ceremony at the end of the year.

Speeches were made by Board Chairperson Chris Davis, and Principal John McGowan, while Jacky exercised her right of reply. A feature of the farewell was a gymnastics demonstration, a wonderful song composed and sung by Jenny Watt and Sarah Reid (nee Tyman) and a graphic comedy skit that Jacky performed at each camp concert.

Following the formal part of the function, Jacky then ventured outside to unveil a young native titoki tree near the main entrance, which she had previously planted as a memorial to her time and service at CBS. She promised to stop by occasionally to make sure we are all looking after it properly!
